Hong Kong
Communication
Majority of people in Hong Kong speak Cantonese. There are many English speakers, which depend on their education level and age.
Hong Kong uses “traditional” Chinese written characters same as Taiwan. All official signs in Hong Kong are bilingual, they are written in traditional Chinese and English.
It is a good idea to recognize some basic Cantonese expressions,
-
“lei-ho?” (Hello, how are you?)
-
“mm-goi” (Excuse me / Thank you).
People are able to speak in English in the hotels and MTR (Mass Transit Railway) while taxi drivers are not.
